Lima
There
are lots of cultural activities (visits to museums)
going during this period and lots of restaurants of
good Peruvian and international food.
For
tourists
the recommendation is not carrying jewelry or large
amounts of money. If you carry a camera, take it in a
bag, to avoid calling attention.
Currency
The
currency in Perú is the NUEVO SOL. The current
rates approximately
1EUR=3,9394
nuevos
soles
peruanos; 1US$=2,7442 nuevos soles peruanos.
The
US dollar is accepted in most of the businesses,
restaurants and gas stations at the rate of the day.
Even though exchange peddlers can offer you better
rates than those of a bank, you take the chance of
being deceived. Changing your money at the hotel is
a lot safer but rates can be up to 5% higher. You
can also change your dollars and euros in banks and
exchange establishments.
Most
businesses
take the best known credit cards such as Visa,
MasterCard, Diners and American Express. The use of
traveller checks has its limitations; ask if they
would be accepted.
In
most restaurants it would be enough between 5 and 10%
of the total. It is not usual to tip taxi drivers.
Telecommunications
For telecommunications: Perú’s country code: 51;
Lima’s area code: 01.
Visa
Individuals
requiring an official letter of invitation in order to
obtain a visa and authorization to attend the
conference should contact Luis Valdivieso Serrano at lvaldiv@pucp.edu.pe
